Hello Oregon Youth Basketball Parents and Guardians,

As stated in our email from August, there are a lot of unknowns that still exist, but we would like to share with everybody what we do know at this time.  Given the unique circumstances and the still constantly changing environment that we are currently living in, the typical basketball season planning, registration, and coordination we are all accustomed to looks much different this season.  Understandably, Oregon Youth Basketball has been getting questions around what the season might look like.  Unfortunately, there are still more questions than answers, but we would like to share with everybody what we know at this time.

  1. The buildings and gymnasiums in the Oregon School District are currently not available for use through at least the first quarter of the academic year, so at this time we will not be holding the typical season parent meetings for OYBL and Travel, as well as Travel evaluations at this time.  These are postponed until further notice.
  2. Until the school district makes a decision on the second quarter, we will not know what the availability of district facilities (gymnasiums) will be for November through the end of the year.
  3. Even if the OSD facilities (gymnasiums) are opened up, we are not sure what availability, if any, of the facilities will be for Oregon Youth Basketball, for many reasons, including but not limited to minimizing access and gatherings, the shift of high school fall sports to the spring, etc.
  4. Travel leagues such as the Badger Developmental League are tentatively planning on attempting to coordinate a January through March season.  Leagues such as this are contingent on many moving parts such as securing gym space, local and county safety guidelines, etc.  They are hoping to provide an update within the next month or so, however these options may or may not be available.

Oregon Youth Basketball program is considering all options available to us at this point in time, however, without access to facilities that allow us to operate our program in a safe, compliant manner, we can only continue the planning process so that if we can have a season, we are ready to go.

Oregon Youth Basketball understands there may be other communities, programs, parents and/or players that have private facility options available to them and are participating or planning on participating in basketball activities at this time or in the future.  As an organization, we would welcome the opportunity to do so in a safe, compliant manner if available, and we are actively exploring other facility options.  However, to clarify, any of these activities or participation occurring at this time is not affiliated with Oregon Youth Basketball and they are not using any OSD or Oregon Youth Basketball resources.
